Bristol

Bristol is a city in the South West of England, 115 miles west of London. With a population of around 400,000, it is England’s sixth largest city (the UK’s ninth largest). Bristol is the major centre of culture, employment and education in the region. From its earliest days, its prosperity has been linked to that of the Port of Bristol, but in more recent years the economy has been built on the aerospace industry, and the city centre docks have been regenerated as a centre of heritage and culture. The city is famous for its music and film industries, and is home to Wallace and Grommit. More recently, Vicky Pollard has brought the wonderful Bristolian intellect and dialect to the world’s attention (“Yeh, but no, but yeh….”).

Bristol’s heritage and architecture is inevitably associated with the Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, who designed the Great Western Railway between London and Bristol, the SS Great Britain steamship and the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

The course.

This course will be run in the Education Centre, Bristol Royal Infirmary. There is good road, rail and bus access to the hospital; the map below shows the major car parks, but also use the United Bristol Healthcare website for further details (www.ubht.nhs.uk/documents/ubht_map.pdf.)

The car park which is nearest and usually has space is the Bristol City Council car park at Trenchard Street (BS1 5AN) (marked on Park Row/”West End” on map below)
